Week 1
Welcome back to another exciting term in Kindy. It has been lovely to see all the children back at school and settling back into their routines. This week have been reviewing the sounds Ss, Aa, Tt, Pp, Ii and Nn as well as the numbers 1-5. Literacy Our letter for next week is the ‘ Mm’ phonic sound. We are focusing on the short initial sound only, as in Mum and mop. This term we are learning some new concepts, including syllables. Syllables are the parts of the word and we count syllables by touching our heads, shoulders and stomach. Eg. Ba-na-na = 1st syllable – touch head, 2nd syllable – touch shoulders and 3rd syllable – touch tummy. We are also learning to read sight words. We have been looking at photos of ourselves and reading. I am {name}. I am a boy/girl. Sight words covered this year are I, am, a, look, Mum. Numeracy Next week we are learning about the number 6.
